The Lake Geneva Lowdown
What town is the wedding in?
The wedding will take place in Fontana on the west side of Lake Geneva. While the celebration is centered here, many of the recommended hotels and restaurants are in nearby towns such as Williams Bay or Lake Geneva City. Everything is close by since each town circles the lake. No matter where you are staying it is an easy drive of under 25 minutes.
Note: You may also notice Lake Como on the map, which is a very small and shallow body of water just north of Williams Bay (it’s about 1/5 the size of Lake Geneva and only 9 ft deep!) Think of it as a quiet and charming hideaway rather than a full destination. For all wedding events and travel planning simply use Geneva Lake as your center point!
Are there Ubers or transportation options?
Uber service has gotten much better in the Lake Geneva area and you will be able to order rides throughout town even late at night. We will also be providing shuttle service to and from the wedding. If many of our guests end up staying downtown or at the Geneva National, we may add shuttle service back and forth there too. One way or another you will not be stranded!
Can I stay in an Airbnb or VRBO?
Absolutely! There are plenty of Airbnbs and VRBOs around Fontana, Williams Bay, and Lake Geneva that make great options. Just be sure you are near the lake and close to the venue so you can easily get to all the weekend events. If you have any questions about location or want help figuring out if a rental is in the right area, please reach out. We are happy to answer and point you in the right direction.
Can we rent boats on Lake Geneva?
You can rent boats through Gordy’s Marine in Fontana, which is always a fun way to spend time! There are also public boat tours where you can ride one of the classic Lake Geneva cruise boats. Whether you want to tour the shoreline, go fishing, or just enjoy the lake breeze there are plenty of options to get out on the water.
Fun fact: Lake Geneva is one of the only places in the country where mail is still delivered by boat, and you can take a tour to see it in action! Mailboat tour tickets here
What will the weather be like?
Late summer in Wisconsin is warm during the day and can cool off in the evenings by the lake. Plan for sunny afternoons in the 70s or 80s and bring a light sweater or jacket for nighttime. Fingers crossed for perfect weather, but we will be ready rain or shine!
Can I bring the kids?
Yes! Families are welcome and Lake Geneva is very kid-friendly with pools, beaches, and plenty of activities. We will have space for the little ones to run around too!
Is there parking at the wedding?
Shuttles will be provided from a designated pick-up and drop-off location, which will be shared closer to the event date. Limited parking will also be available at the house if you prefer to drive yourself, but we encourage the shuttle if possible.
